What does Meneage mean?

The north-eastern portion of the Lizard Peninsula is known as the ‘Meneage’ or ‘Monkish (land)’ – it is likely that in the post-Roman period the land belonged to a confederacy of small Celtic monasteries. Five parishes make up the Meneage: part of Mawgan-in-Meneage, St Martin-in-Meneage, Manaccan, St Anthony-in-Meneage and St Keverne.
